Inside Sales Representative at Veeam Bucharest

From Teaching French to Leading in Sales

Mihai Platon spent his first year out of university teaching French in a Romanian high school. Wanting stronger financial security and a bigger challenge, he brought his language skills into the corporate world instead, working through Oracle and Honeywell before landing at Veeam Bucharest as an Inside Sales Representative on what's internally called the Account Executive team, in Commercial Inside Sales.

He first noticed Veeam the way a lot of people in Bucharest's tech scene did, on posters around the city, before friends already working there told him it was worth a look. Seven years later, he says the company has consistently exceeded what he expected going in.

In the years since joining, he has moved from inside sales into an enterprise account manager role, taken on public sector accounts, spent time as a channel account manager, and returned to inside sales, now covering Veeam's commercial segment for the French market. He interviewed for that first role on-site, sketching a virtual machine and hypervisor setup on paper for a manager who wanted to see if he could think in the technology. Colleagues now come to him for that same kind of advice.

"Even if they were not winning on my deal, we were winning as a team."

Mihai treats hitting his annual quota with quarters still on the clock as one of his proudest, most repeatable results, alongside multiple MVP recognitions and a Veeam Excellence trip for top performers.

Asked why Veeam is a great place to work, Mihai points to three things. "The people, the work, because it's dynamic and every customer is different, and the compensation. Veeam has all three for me."

He is also already the person colleagues turn to for advice on their own deals, and is aiming for a team leader role down the line, ideally staying on the same French market he has spent years learning to sell into.

What Does Career Growth Look Like for an Inside Sales Representative at Veeam Bucharest?

Mihai built his seven years at Veeam by raising his hand for whatever role would teach him the most: inside sales, enterprise accounts, public sector, channel management, and now inside sales again for the commercial segment. That same instinct is now aimed at his next step.

"It's been confirmed to me that I'd like to step into a management position."

He's specific about where too.

"I'm working for the French market, which is very specific. You have to learn the culture to sell properly and close big deals. I'd like to stay on the same market, but as a team leader."

How Does an Inside Sales Representative Make an Impact at Veeam?

For Mihai, impact starts with the conversation itself. He is direct that the product does a lot of the work, and his job is to make sure the conversation matches what the customer actually needs.

"I'm not there to sell something. I'm there to help the customer solve an issue."

That approach carries into how he treats Veeam's own customer events. At a recent VeeamOn event in France, he brought six of his own customers along rather than treating it as separate from his day-to-day relationships with them.

I met six of my customers there that I invited. They were very happy and proud of being a Veeam customer, and it's the right opportunity for them to meet our upper management and take the conversation to another level.

What Is the Sales Team Culture Like at Veeam Bucharest?

Mihai's team is largely senior, with most colleagues carrying several years of tenure each, and he describes the competition inside it as proactive rather than territorial. That showed up clearly during a deal that took him three months to close.

"They asked me, how can we help? We knew the deal mattered for the team, and we knew you were struggling. Do you have some tasks for us?"

The team distributed pieces of the work between them, and when the purchase order was finally signed, the celebration was not private.

"It was a team lunch, all together, celebrating the success."

What Does Recognition Look Like for Salespeople at Veeam?

That drive for financial security that pointed Mihai toward sales in the first place is still what keeps him at Veeam years later, and he points to one structural reason why.

"There are a lot of tech sales companies on the market with plenty of growth, but with capped commissions. I think that's one of the points keeping a lot of us here."

For Mihai, the uncapped structure means every deal he closes pays out in full, with nothing capping the return on the effort behind it.

"The reason we're doing this is that we have the possibility to win a lot of money. We have a lot of ambition to feed, and a lot of potential to reach."

He's quick to add one more point.

"Among everything that's changed at Veeam, the uncapped commission was kept. It's been like this since I joined."

He names it alongside one other factor as the two things driving his own ambition to close as much as he can: uncapped commission, and Veeam Excellence, the company's recognition trip for top performers.

What Do Sales Recognition Events Like Launchpad and Veeam Excellence Actually Involve?

Launchpad, Veeam's annual global sales kickoff event held in Las Vegas, is where Mihai says the year properly begins, with Veeam's global leadership setting direction in person, alongside the sales teams responsible for hitting it.

"Organization last year was amazing, the conditions, everything, and you really feel like you are part of a premium company."

Veeam Excellence works differently, and for Mihai, it delivered something rarer: an entire week of proof that a year of effort had actually landed.

"I felt like I was on top of the world for that week, and that all my effort for the year was finally paid off, and recognized."

The part of Veeam Excellence that matters most to Mihai is the access it gives him to people he would otherwise never meet.

"The most important part was the networking. It's not often that we get to meet colleagues from other regions in person, and even at Launchpad, with sessions split by geography, it's more complicated. Veeam Excellence is really an opportunity to meet, and because partners come too, you get to know people outside of work as well. The connections I made are still in place, and we still talk about those memories."

For someone building a sales career, that network becomes part of the job itself, a resource for advice and relationships that outlast any single deal.

Recognition also shows up in smaller, steadier ways. Mihai points to Fabric Points, Veeam's internal rewards program, as one of the clearer examples of the company doing something well.

"You have real flexibility with your points. You can put them toward so many different things, and you get a nice note along with it. I don't know another company doing this, at least not in Romania."

How Does Veeam Bucharest Support Life Outside of Work?

Mihai treats VeeaMe Day, Veeam's periodic wellbeing day off, as a full disconnect, which he says is rare for people in sales.

"VeeaMe Day for me is a real sign-off day. That's the day to celebrate with family."

Outside of his sales role, Mihai is also a Culture Champion, part of a small volunteer group in Bucharest that organizes team activities, including a recent perfume-making session with an outside creator who helped colleagues put together their own scent.

His time outside the office otherwise goes to walking, weekend trips, swimming, and running, along with his family and his French Bulldog.

Why Join Veeam Bucharest as an Inside Sales Representative?

Veeam Bucharest gives salespeople a commission structure with no ceiling and a peer group senior enough to actually help close deals rather than compete over them. There's also a genuine path between roles for people who want to move around before they specialize. The recognition is concrete, from Launchpad's visibility with leadership to Veeam Excellence's relationships, with Fabric Points adding everyday flexibility on top, and the team culture treats a colleague's win as a shared one. Go fearlessly forward.
