Working in Tech at Veeam Prague
How Denisa Keblová Went from Journalism to Owning an Enterprise Product
Denisa Keblová started her career in journalism, then retrained as a UX/UI designer and spent several years at a fast-moving product agency before joining Veeam in Czech Republic. She was looking for a product where the design decisions she made today would still be there tomorrow.
Today she builds interfaces for data resilience software used by businesses around the world, leads the design system for Veeam's web UI, and prototypes AI-powered features that are pushing the product forward. She joined in 2024.
What Does Career Growth Actually Look Like on the Tech Team at Veeam Prague?
"I didn't have much experience maintaining large-scale design systems before, but now I'm responsible for that. It's been a huge learning curve, but an exciting one."
Denisa's first year at Veeam was defined by solving challenges bigger than anything she had in her tech career. At Veeam, her work is used by hundreds of thousands of customers every day.
One of her first major projects was helping deliver dark mode across Veeam's products, a longstanding user request that required careful, system-level thinking rather than a quick visual fix. Alongside that, she took on a significant accessibility initiative, working with a third-party reviewer to audit Veeam's products against modern accessibility standards and implementing solutions for users with colour blindness, dyslexia, and visual impairments.
"We're working hard to make our products more accessible for people with colour blindness, dyslexia, or visual impairments. We had a third-party review our products and we're implementing solutions to meet modern accessibility standards. It's about making sure everyone can use Veeam products confidently."
That thread runs through everything Denisa does. Her journalism background, which she once wondered how to apply in a design career, turns out to be one of her most useful assets. She knows how to ask the right questions and find the real user need underneath the stated one.
How Does Veeam Prague Support Its Tech Team in Learning New Tools and Technologies?
"We're encouraged to learn and use AI to speed up prototyping and create high-fidelity mockups faster. It helps us visualise new features quickly and test them with users."
At Veeam, that encouragement is built into how the team operates. Denisa has integrated Figma's AI features directly into her workflow, cutting the time between an idea and something testable down significantly. What used to take multiple rounds of low-fidelity sketching now reaches real users much earlier, which means the feedback that actually shapes the product comes in sooner.
One of Denisa's favourite recent projects brought all of this together. She prototyped a voice feature concept for Veeam Intelligence, a tool that lets users record voice memos, converts them to text, and generates automated replies.
I used AI to create the waveform animations and bring the prototype to life. Seeing the concept come to life validated how much is possible when design and AI tools work together.

What Kind of Work Do People on the Tech Team Do at Veeam Prague?
Denisa's scope at Veeam is broader than most designers at her level would encounter elsewhere. In addition to her feature work, she is one of the people responsible for the design system that underpins Veeam's entire web UI, a unified source of truth for design language, components, and user experience across multiple products.
"Before, there wasn't one unified source of truth. Now everything aligns, the design language and components align across the full experience. It's a huge step forward for design quality and user trust."
Building and maintaining a design system at this scale means understanding how decisions made at the component level ripple across an entire product ecosystem, and communicating those decisions to developers and product managers across multiple time zones as products evolve rapidly. Denisa also works across the full user research process, designing studies, running tests, and translating findings back into product decisions. That research capability eventually became the seed of one of her most significant initiatives at Veeam.
Can People on the Tech Team Take Initiative and Lead Projects at Veeam Prague?
After the Version 13 release, Denisa and a colleague identified a gap: Veeam needed more direct, ongoing access to real user feedback to test and improve the product more effectively. Rather than flagging it as someone else's problem, they fixed it themselves.
They ran an internal audit, spoke to project managers across the company, mapped out what a user research database would need to look like, and pitched the idea at Veeam100, an internal event where real customers attend product sessions and workshops.
"We presented our idea at the Veeam100 event. About 80 customers attended, and 40 signed up to join our testing community. Seeing forty customers sign up on the spot was the clearest signal yet that design quality matters to the people using Veeam products."
The project came entirely from a designer who saw a problem, built a case, and asked for the room to solve it.
"We have structure, but there's still freedom. If you want to try something new, you can raise your hand and do it."
What Is the Team Culture Like at Veeam Prague?
Denisa's team in Prague is small and growing, which means the collaboration is close and the learning is constant. The team meets in the office twice a week, and they make that happen by staying flexible with each other.
"We make the effort to meet in person. If someone can't come on Monday, we adjust and meet on another day instead. We just want to connect and support one another."
The team operates with a flat structure that Denisa describes as genuinely horizontal. Workload is shared, tasks are reshuffled when someone needs support, and the culture is built around making each other better rather than protecting individual lanes. That collaborative dynamic extends beyond the design team. Denisa works daily with product managers, developers, and project teams across multiple time zones, and navigating the tension between business priorities and user needs is something she has developed a real skill for.
"Sometimes there are differences in perspective. A product manager sees the business side, I see the user side. The challenge is finding the balance that works for both. That's where communication and trust matter."
What Is It Like Working at Veeam Prague if You Are Coming from an Agency or Non-Corporate Background?
"Veeam is large, but it doesn't feel too corporate. We have structure, but there's still freedom. If you want to try something new, you can raise your hand and do it, supported by teammates and managers every step of the way."
At the agency, a project would ship and move on. At Veeam, the design decisions Denisa makes today are inside software that protects the data of businesses, hospitals, and critical infrastructure around the world. The Prague office itself gives that work a strong foundation: there is a gym, a music room, snacks across every floor, 25 vacation days, dedicated VeeaMe Days for mental wellbeing, and Veeam Cares Days for volunteering. Denisa has spent VeeaMe Days kayaking with colleagues, and her downtime away from the screen tends to involve running or relearning Korean, a language she studied during a university exchange and still follows through K-dramas.
