Inside Veeam's Corporate Technology Team

Behind every seamless login, stable connection, and resolved IT issue is a team working to keep technology running around the clock. In Bucharest, that team includes Elena Chircu, a System Reliability Engineer II on Veeam's Corp Tech team, who joined more than two years ago, in April 2024, to help keep the company's IT infrastructure secure and performing at its best. The work often happens behind the scenes, but it's felt by people across the company, whether they're in the office, remote, or on the road.

What's the biggest challenge in an IT infrastructure role at Veeam?

The pressure is real: every click has the potential to affect colleagues across the company, and during an outage, there's little room for guesswork. “A wrong decision can make the situation even worse,” she explains. But the payoff matches the pressure. “Sometimes an issue seems impossible at first, and you have no idea what caused it. But once you find the root cause, you realize the solution may be only a few clicks away.” Turning an impossible-looking problem into a resolved ticket is, for many on the Corp Tech team, the best part of the job.

There isn't a typical day. “There's rarely a 'typical' day, and that's exactly what I love about my role,” she says. “Each issue is unique and keeps things interesting. Honestly, I like that my job challenges me. It keeps my mind sharp, and I'm always learning something new.” Between monitoring alerts, managing infrastructure, and troubleshooting the unexpected, the role shifts constantly — some days call for fixing what's broken, others for improving systems and finding

How do people find their way into IT infrastructure careers at Veeam?

For her, it started with a question. Her path into technology began with a creative project — volunteering to build network diagrams led her to ask, “How does this actually work?” That question turned into a career spanning routers, switches, and infrastructure. The same patience shows up outside of work, too: she applies it to knitting, embroidery, and painting. “Knitting and embroidery are surprisingly similar to IT: lots of patience, a bit of troubleshooting, and occasionally realizing the problem started several steps ago.”
