Building Partner Sales at Veeam Romania

How Collaboration and Recognition Shape Channel Sales at Veeam

Before joining Veeam, Mihnea-Dorian Prunescu spent six to seven years in a similar partner-facing sales role in the technology sector. Mihnea joined Veeam, the Data and AI Trust Company, in May 2025 as a Channel Manager in Romania, working with partners across Africa.

“In my previous role, one of the biggest challenges was what happens when data gets compromised. I wanted to be on the other side of that equation, helping prevent it in the first place instead of cleaning it up after it happens.”

What Is It Like to Work in Channel Sales at Veeam Romania?

For Mihnea, working in channel sales means collaborating with people across countries, roles and teams. That gives him access to different perspectives while building relationships with partners across Africa.

“I wouldn’t think of it only in terms of this specific location. Given the role, I have the opportunity to interact with teams in other geographies. We have functional parts of the team in other countries, and it’s a nice diverse environment where you get to connect with different people in different roles and different views on things.”

That collaboration also shapes how the team approaches challenges.

“It is easy to work with a lot of the people here. We can look at something together, build a plan, and then execute it as agreed, working in the same direction.”

Mihnea saw that approach in action when building a relationship with a partner. Drawing on a colleague’s previous experience with the partner, the team proposed a joint customer event that developed into a recurring event.

“It was something that truly kickstarted the business with them. It came at the suggestion of people on our team, saying let’s organize an event with them, it’ll be beneficial for them, and Veeam will generate new business too. It’s since become a recurring event.”

How Can Channel Managers Grow Their Careers at Veeam?

Growth for Mihnea has included learning Veeam’s products as well as discovering new approaches to working with partners. One of the most useful lessons has been how the team approaches lead generation events.

The lead generation events are done in a bit of a different way. The context they’re brought about in is a lot more open, and a lot more frequent than what I’d done in the past. It’s one of the more important tools I’ve picked up.

Launchpad, Veeam’s global sales kickoff, has also given Mihnea opportunities to learn while spending time with colleagues who normally work across different countries. “The presentations are great, it’s good to have that visibility. But the workshops matter more, and so does having more of the team in one place. Since we’re spread across Romania, South Africa, and Nigeria, having us all join at the same time brings us a little closer together.”

How Do Sales Teams Make an Impact at Veeam?

Working across different markets means understanding the challenges partners and customers face in each region. In parts of Africa, Mihnea and the team have worked with partners and customers to find alternatives when hardware involves high costs or long delivery times. “Where hardware would have been a very high investment and would have taken anywhere between three to six months to deliver, we’ve been encouraging customers to consider a cloud strategy, and along with it Veeam Data Cloud.” Relationship-building is another important part of Mihnea’s role. After spending months building trust with a partner in South Africa, Mihnea secured the board-level support needed for the partner to sponsor a public sector event. “This was very important to us because we needed the board’s buy-in for them to sponsor the event. It’s a pretty big investment for them, so we do have their buy-in now, but without that meeting, it wouldn’t have happened.”

How Does Veeam Recognize Success in Sales?

Mihnea’s work has also brought recognition through Veeam’s MVP program. Mihnea and a teammate received the award together and were recognized during a channel meeting. “It was an overall positive experience. Both of us were on the same team, and we were both quite surprised to win. There was a channel meeting where it was brought up, and it felt like a nice moment of recognition.” The award also came with Fabric Points that could be redeemed for rewards. Mihnea turned the recognition into something connected to a personal interest. “We had rewards points we could use for an Amazon gift card, so I put mine toward some new gear for my guitar. I like music, I like guitars, so that’s where it went.”

How Does Veeam Support Time Away From Work?

VeeaMe Days give employees additional company-wide time away from work. For Mihnea, one provided the opportunity to extend personal time off and plan a trip to Paris. “They are always welcome, the more the merrier!”

Why Join Veeam’s Sales Team?

For Mihnea, the value of a sales career at Veeam comes from being able to draw on the experience of the people around you. That knowledge can help turn an idea into a plan, whether the challenge involves a new partner opportunity, a different market or a new way of generating business. “Everyone has a fixed set of experience at any given time. Working with a team that’s seen the same situation before, their knowledge and feedback can help build a plan and guide it. There’s a wealth of knowledge to be had within the team.” Ready to build your sales career through collaboration, partner relationships and real ownership?
