About This Role

We are seeking a Director of Marketing Finance to lead strategic financial partnership with the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Marketing leadership to increase ROI and pipeline impact. In this role, you will own upper-funnel spend planning, provide rigorous analytics and insights, and help translate go-to-market priorities into investment decisions across programs, channels, agencies, and marketing technology.

We are looking for an ambitious, intellectually curious, and self-motivated leader who thrives in a high-performance environment. This role sits at the intersection of finance, marketing strategy, and growth—serving as Marketing’s primary FP&A partner for budget governance, headcount planning, forecasting, and investment optimization. You will establish an operating cadence with Marketing and Finance to keep spend aligned to priorities, measured with clear performance signals, and continuously optimized to drive pipeline and long-term growth.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the CMO’s strategic finance partner, supporting MBRs with clear executive narratives on marketing performance, investment trade-offs, and spend-to-pipeline outcomes.
  • Own upper-funnel spend planning and governance across channels (e.g., brand, digital, events, content, PR), including allocation frameworks, scenario planning, and trade-off recommendations to maximize ROI and pipeline contribution.
  • Lead the annual and long-range planning processes for Marketing Finance, including analyzing levers to influence long-term pipeline and sales growth across segments, channels, and products; owning the planning timeline and stakeholder alignment; and consolidating inputs into the marketing budget and multi-year plan.
  • Lead marketing analytics and performance reporting—define and monitor KPIs (e.g., CAC, CPL, conversion rates, pipeline velocity, ROI), build dashboards and narratives, and drive action through insights.
  • Drive transparency to marketing ROI by partnering with Marketing Ops and Finance to align on demand-gen definitions (e.g., MQL → SAL → SQL), establish ROI guardrails and decision rights, and evolve measurement from pipeline/spend toward closed-won/spend.
  • Drive monthly/quarterly forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reviews for marketing spend, ensuring transparent visibility to results, risks, and opportunities.
  • Own marketing headcount planning in partnership with Marketing and HR/Finance, including capacity modeling, hiring approvals, and productivity analyses.
  • Establish and operate an investment review process for major marketing initiatives and martech/vendor spend—business cases, spend controls, benefits tracking, and post-investment measurement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing Ops to improve measurement (attribution, incrementality, funnel analytics), govern metric definitions and systems of record, and ensure end-to-end traceability from source data to KPIs that connect marketing activity to pipeline and revenue outcomes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance and/or analytics talent supporting Marketing, fostering a culture of analytical rigor, operational excellence, and continuous optimization.

What You'll Bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, strategic finance, and/or marketing finance within a high-growth B2B (SaaS preferred) organization.
  • Strong understanding of marketing and funnel economics, including upper-funnel investment levers and measurement of ROI/pipeline impact.
  • Proven ability to partner with and influence senior leaders (including CMO and VPs), translating business strategy into actionable plans, trade-offs, and decisions.
  • Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and building scalable governance processes for program and vendor/agency spend.
  • Advanced analytical skills, including financial modeling, scenario planning, and ability to synthesize complex data into clear executive narratives.
  • Experience with performance measurement and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau/Power BI) and go-to-market systems such as Salesforce; familiarity with martech and attribution concepts is a plus.
  • Experience leading and developing others (direct or matrixed), with the ability to scale and coach high-performing teams over time.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and executive presentation skills; comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree is a plus.
