Alicja’s Growth Story at Veeam

What happens when you start in your very first sales role and stay curious about where you could grow next? For Alicja, that curiosity shaped a career built on learning, thoughtful moves, and always finding the right fit for her goals—and for her lifestyle.

Where did your journey begin?

Alicja is a Senior Associate Account Executive, Commercial Inside Sales, supporting the Poland market, based in Bucharest. She joined Veeam in 2019 in a junior sales role, focused on lead qualification.

“I didn’t even think sales was something I was naturally good at,” she says. “But starting at a junior level gave me space to learn what the role really involved.”

That openness to learning helped her move forward quickly. After her first role, she stepped into a Sales Development role, expanding her responsibilities and exposure to the business.

How did you decide which direction to grow?

Rather than chasing titles, Alicja focused on understanding what kind of work energized her.

“I was really interested in working with partners,” she says. She made a point of being clear about her goals and used all the support around her to get there. “My manager and I sat down together, talked through what I wanted next, and put together a plan to help me grow.”

When an opportunity opened, she moved into a channel-focused role, working closely with partners in Poland. Over time, she continued to shift horizontally, working with resellers, service providers, and later customers, each role bringing new skills and perspectives.

Even when it wasn’t a promotion, I was still learning something new. Every change gave me a different view of the business.

What happened when life changed?

After taking two years of maternity leave, Alicja returned to a team that welcomed her back without hesitation.

“I never felt treated differently,” she shares. “People understood that this was just another chapter of my life.”

When choosing her next role, she looked for balance, staying close to the Poland market she knew well while moving into a position that fit her new reality. “What I appreciated most was having the chance to decide where I wanted to go next,” she explains. “It meant I could shape my career to fit my new lifestyle after maternity leave and still keep growing and learning. That kind of flexibility made all the difference.”

What keeps you growing at Veeam?

Support made the difference. Alicja points to development plans, mentoring, training, and learning directly from colleagues as key parts of her growth.

“You learn a lot by watching how others work,” she says. “That helped me understand what I enjoy and where I want to go next.”
