About this role
The Technical Accounting, Senior Manager is an individual contributor who provides expert guidance on complex accounting issues, ensuring the organization's financial reporting complies with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) and relevant regulatory standards, including those promulgated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
This role is responsible for researching, interpreting, and implementing new accounting standards; maintaining documentation supporting technical accounting positions and global accounting policies; and advising internal stakeholders on technical accounting matters.
The Technical Accounting, Senior Manager acts as a subject matter expert, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting challenges, optimize internal controls, and facilitate audits. By maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evolving regulations and industry best practices, this position helps safeguard the integrity and accuracy of the Company’s financial reporting, supporting informed business decisions and compliance with all applicable laws and standards.
This position is based in the United States and may offer a hybrid or remote work arrangement. Occasional travel may be required.
What You'll Do
- Research, interpret, and apply U.S. GAAP, SEC, and other relevant accounting standards to support accurate financial reporting related to topics, including, but not limited to:
- Business combinations
- Debt – modifications and extinguishment
- Derivatives instruments and hedging activities
- Earnings per share
- Equity
- Fair value
- Income taxes
- Intangible assets and goodwill
- Investments in debt and equity securities
- Foreign currency matters
- Software development costs
- Stock compensation
- Software / SaaS revenue recognition
- Prepare high-quality technical accounting memos to support critical business transactions, facilitate audits and support internal controls.
- Review quarterly and annual financial statements, including footnote disclosures and supporting documentation.
- Assist with the preparation of SEC filings such as 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other required reports. Respond to audit inquiries and SEC comment letters.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously enhance global accounting policies and procedures aligned with a public-company control environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Global Revenue, Global Shared Services, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, IT, Legal, HR and other stakeholders to assess the accounting implications of new transactions, contracts, or business initiatives.
- Lead technical accounting projects, including implementation of new accounting standards impacting software companies and driving process improvements for scalability and automation.
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulations and communicate their potential impact to management and provide technical guidance and training to finance and accounting staff.
- Support external audit processes by preparing schedules, responding to auditor inquiries, and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
- Own responsibility to design, document, operate and maintain key controls over financial reporting within the domain.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and active CPA certification required.
- 6+ years of relevant accounting, including experience with a “Big 4” public accounting firm, specializing in audits or technical consultations for clients with global footprints in the software industry.
- Proven expertise in relevant U.S. GAAP technical areas, including those listed above.
- Vast experience researching and analyzing FASB standards and SEC rules, as well as interpretive guidance provided by the Big 4 accounting firms, to provide accounting and reporting solutions for complex technical accounting matters.
- Experience preparing high-quality, comprehensive technical accounting papers for public companies.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement accounting policies and internal controls across a global organization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements applicable to public and pre-IPO software companies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying issues and proposing solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and regions.
- Ability to translate complex accounting issues into clear business impacts.
- Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, respond quickly to changing priorities, and drive change across the organization.
