We sat down with Stefan who joined the Sales Team at Veeam four years ago and asked him about the top three drivers in a successful salesperson. He said, “Sales is a performance-based career. The more you sell, the more bonus you earn. For anyone with a competitive streak or the desire to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work, this is a key motivator and something that will drive a successful career for years”.

Leverage on your existing language and people skills
“It’s useful but not mandatory to have experience in sales when you join Team Veeam, especially from the software of hardware industry. Even if you are not from the IT industry, that’s okay too. What you should have is drive, willingness to learn, strong goals and the tenacity to reach them. It is also useful if you speak more than one language, as language skills can open up new opportunities on a global level.” He added, “In Sales, it’s essential to listen and to negotiate. When you speak a second or third language, you most likely have a better understanding of the customer’s needs which will help you relate to people, and that’s extremely important in our job.”
We wanted to know from Stefan if there are any other skills that he thinks are important when joining Sales at Veeam. He shared, “Show that you are confident, resilient, an active listener and someone who loves engaging with others.”
A supportive environment to learn and grow
Stefan reassures new joiners that if they bring the right work ethic, they will quickly be brought up to speed with Veeam’s processes, products and projects. “You’ll have a clearly laid-out onboarding plan that spans over a period of three months, as well as an experienced work buddy who is always there to answer questions and provide useful tips.” The onboarding curriculum is also comprehensive, from technical product trainings to regular one-on-ones with your manger so you never feel like you are alone.
“Everyone at Veeam is always open to offer their support. We try to help each other, and together we can reach the highest levels of professional excellence.”
Stefan is a great example that learning, and development never stop at Veeam. “I’m now working towards a leadership role. For that, I’m attending various courses as well as development and mentorship programs internally. I read through any self-improvement literature that I can get my hands on, while also doing my current role as an Inside Sales Representative. It’s my goal to pass on my experience and knowledge on to the next generation and soon lead my own inside sales team to success.”
