Before he joined Veeam in St Petersburg, Artem’s only workplace tech experience had been operating the till as a bartender! Despite this, he had a degree in IT and Veeam saw potential in him. It was daunting at first, but he learnt something new every day in Technical Support, “I was given the task of study, grow, gain knowledge and gain experience from other Engineers.” In the three years since Artem joined, his progression from one level to the next has been astounding.
Diving straight into the deep end, Artem was keen to learn and grow with the help of his peers and other Engineers. “During the first six months, I gained a lot of experience of virtualization technologies. And my communication skills and ability to help customers with their needs came on leaps and bounds. I developed a lot personally, taking on more responsibility.” His hard work and determination allowed him to progress quickly and he was given the opportunity to move straight into Tier 2, which was quite the step up from a mid-Tier 1 role!
His passion for personal and professional growth didn’t go unnoticed and that’s when Artem’s career moved into a new league. He progressed to the next level of being a Tier 2 Technical Support Engineer in a very short period of time. “My team leader, and a couple of other colleagues, saw this potential in me, and I felt like I’d deserved it during this first year and a half.”
With his new role came autonomy, respect and brand-new experiences: “I love fixing things and making a positive impression. I’m also working on a training program to bring Junior Engineers up to speed with a new backup product for Microsoft Office 365. It makes me feel like a teacher, but it’s another new experience!”
